Citizens, beware!

In the big four million German city, a maniac started up, killing little girls and sending mocking letters to newspapers. The population is in a panic, any person who dares to speak on the street with a child falls under suspicion, the police are completely at a loss - many-day searches do not bring any clues. Tired of the endless "Shmonov", the bosses of an organized criminal network decide to arrange a hunt for a maniac.

Imagine that Fincher was born in Germany at the beginning of the 20th century and, as early as the year 31, withdrew his Zodiac. It would have been something very close to Fritz Lang's M Killer. In general, of course, it is surprising how many cinematic techniques and finds take their roots in the old films of the 20s and 30s. Specifically, in this picture (by the way, the first for Lang made with sound), he successfully used parallel editing of scenes, forcing the suspense by initially hiding the killer's face, and even introduced the sound theme of an individual character, making it a key part of the plot.

As for the script itself, it can be divided into three standard parts for dramatic art. It all starts with a cheerful plot of the plot with forcing the atmosphere of fear of the unknown maniac killer, which can have any of the residents, even a neighbor, even a friend. Then follows a somewhat long and boring part with two parallel investigations: the police and the mafia. However, all the flaws, no doubt, redeem the outcome of the film, in which the captured maniac appears before the people's court. Magnificent scene, which is rightfully entered into the annals of cinema history.

The ending of the picture with a powerful jerk raises the film “M Killer” above the level of the usual thriller, asking a lot of sharp and still topical questions: is madness a good reason for the killer not to go to prison, is the maniac killer different from a balanced one? and the "noble" killer-mafia, whether ordinary people have the right to judge their criminals, or do you need a state "machine" for this. I’m not even talking about the great acting game that Peter Lorre, the killer of the role of the killer, demonstrated in his last monologue.

In my opinion, "M Killer" - one of those paintings, which almost managed to pass the test of time. If it were not for the mid-length of the film, the tempo and rhythm would fully correspond to modern standards. Cinema lovers will also, no doubt, be pleased to find in this tape practically all the modern techniques of the “thriller” genre. Well, the final, of course, for centuries.
