It is worth starting with the fact that local distributors simply killed, adding the ill-fated word “saga” to the name of the picture, and it is not clear why they did it. In order to bring together a magnificent picture of Matt Reeves and wild pseudo-vampish trash for 17-year-old screaming girls, known as "Twilight"? However, this in no way spoiled the impression of the atmospheric, breathtaking remake of the eponymous Swedish horror.
In cinema, vampires are a very vague concept, from romantic vampires like Dracula Stoker to bloodthirsty and powerful from Blade or Warriors of Light, comedies from From Dusk Till Dawn to cute and banal from Twilight. But not only Stephanie Meyer, who wrote a book about a naive girl and her immortal lover, perverted the world of vampires, here you can count the famous John Carpenter, whose “Vampires” were a rather weak spectacle.
In any case, against the background of these pictures, depicting vampires as sufferers, carrying in themselves pain, loneliness and a sense of inevitability, was, if not an innovation, then at least an original idea. Therefore, we must pay tribute to Yun Ivide Lindqvist, author of the book “Let me in.”
And the film is really permeated with the atmosphere of loneliness, misunderstanding and, of course, love, and not the kind that collects more than half a billion at the box office at the expense of the pretty faces of the main characters, but the real one - depicted as an innocent feeling between two 12-year-old children. , each of which carries its own heavy burden.
Owen (Cody Smith-McPhee) suffers bullying at school, observes how his parents' marriage collapsed, and realizes that there seems to be no person in the world who will understand him. And Abby (Chloe Moretz), whose thirst for blood is a curse, a cross that she carries for a very long time.
“So how old are you really?” - “Twelve ... just a long time ago.”
The young actors did a great job; a lot depended on their playing. The images are not quite simple, but this is not the first time for them - after all, both actors have already performed rather difficult roles in films with a dramatic undertone. Chloe is in "Kiptsa", and Cody in the wonderful drama "The Road".
If you try to determine the best horror of the past and this year, then the actual pictures of children will win - “Orphan” last year, and of course “Let me in” in this.
The result was a great atmospheric, touching movie.
