What exactly is the feature film “A Walk to Remember”? This is another teenage melodrama about the love of a girl-memorized girl for a boy-zadrot (in this case, this same boy poses as a tough boy, which makes him look even more zadroty), from the “innovations” here, only that the poor thing is sick with cancer, because what the first sex becomes unlikely, but the guy turns out to be surprisingly stubborn and does not give up, probably.
I just want to say that I have a positive attitude to the “melodrama” genre, and many representatives like it very much, while others really cause genuine delight. And even stories about the love of zadrota to zauchka and vice versa, I can quite like, if they are made with a touch of originality or at least cling. But with this here is a complete bummer.
I have not read the books of Nicholas Sparks, but I am calm about their adaptations. "Diary of Memory" despite the terribly cliché and dodoolomny plot still looks not without interest and really touches (though mostly because of the excellent acting work). Here, it is still more predictable, banal, false, and that the most annoying is very boring.
In general, death or its prerequisites is one of the most powerful dramatic techniques, almost always works. “Practically,” this is because everything depends on its relevance and the correctness of the approach, but here everything is filled up. Starting like a terribly unleavened romcom, and by the middle of finally blowing off, the screenwriter comes to the conclusion that it is time to "bang" someone from the main characters. And ta-dam! The girl turns out to be sick with cancer, everyone is shocked, viewers wake up and take out handkerchiefs, start thinking that this is a masterpiece and lament why they didn't give all the Oscars and even places in the top 250 film searches, at that time I start to yawn loudly and clearly understand that for nonsense going on here.
But not even a weak script and a silly storyline are most annoying, but horrible acting work. Shane West, previously unknown to me, unsuccessfully tries to pull a tough guy out of himself, so unsuccessfully that even normal zadrota doesn’t come out of him, our hero’s movie with the same dull face, expressing only a desire to get out of the set quickly and drive on its red wheelbarrow (which he, by the way, bought first thing after the shooting). Even more annoying to Mandy Moore, trying to play either the terminally ill girl memorizer, or the hyperactive nun, in fairness it must be said that she at least tries and her facial expression sometimes changes, moving from a "sheep look" to a "macaque grin" what causes perhaps a comic effect or complete annoyance. Of the other actors besides Peter Coyote with a puzzled look, it will be difficult to remember someone, even Daryl Hannah is not at all remembered.
Also disappointed directing. I do not consider Adam Schenkman a particularly outstanding director, but his recent work very much sympathizes with me, and one film about a bald commando even causes special respect. The comedies work out very well for him, but the melodrama is not very good (although in the same movie about a bald commando, the elements of comedy and melodrama very well got along with each other), everything looks very false and strained. There is practically no atmosphere, but there is a completely inappropriate soundtrack (unsuccessful attempts to jam either under a musical or under a clip are especially deduced) and excessive pretentiousness.
As a result, we have a sugary gum for the MTV generation. Chewed and spat out, aftertaste - zero.
