The historical drama about the American space program and the courageous people who made history in front of their eyes!

“Guys what you need” - a dramatic and informative film based on the book of the same name by Tom Wolfe, tells the story of American astronautics from 1947 to 1963. Gus Grissom, Gordon Cooper, Dack Slayton, John Glenn, Scott Carpenter, Alan Shepard, Walter Schirra - seven best pilots who have become astronauts and who have achieved success in space! But Philip Kaufman in his film showed not only astronauts, but also their families and the problems they faced, and in particular the difficult and complicated relationships with their wives, as well as their internal fears and experiences. The director showed the famous pilot Chuck Yeiger, who was considered one of the best pilots and was able to be the first in the world to break the sound barrier. However, Chuck is opposed to the space program and is not being taken to a squad where seven decent guys have already been selected.

The film shows us the "Space Race" between the USSR and the USA. The Americans, who stubbornly wish to be the first in space, are losing this battle, as the Soviet Union launches first its man, or rather Yuri Gagarin, who flew into space on April 12, 1961. Yet Americans do not lose hope, while continuing to work hard and keep up. Lively competition and a pleasant atmosphere make the film more entertaining and interesting. Duration of 193 minutes does not make the film boring for a minute, because penetrating into this wonderful atmosphere of the film, time flies by. Philip Kaufman shot quite a decent film, which won four Oscar awards! Beautiful views of the cosmos, good scenery, pleasant music, interesting historical facts, a wonderful acting game - all this makes the film special and unusual. And the guys, after all, really need something!
